Encinitas is an eclectic mix of 60’s inspired beach culture. Encinitas lies along six miles of rugged coastal terrain, which include beaches, cliffs, flat-topped coastal areas, steep mesa bluffs and rolling hills. There are three main beaches located on the Encinitas coasts; Moonlight State Beach, D Street Beach and Sea Cliff which includes Swami’s surf break. The surfing is unbeatable and many surf contests are held throughout the year in Encinitas. Moonlight State Beach is where the shore drops down nearer to sea level, making it the easiest beach to access in Encinitas. It is a family and locals kind of beach that is flat, sandy, and perfect for a picnic and a day of sunning. The athletically inclined will find some serious volleyball at the three beach courts. There is also volleyball and bonfires after dark. The Boneyards below the bluffs from Moonlight Beach south to Swami’s point. The mile long beach is better suited to surfing than sunbathing. Swami’s is the name ascribed to the popular surf break at the southernmost end of Encinitas below bluffs where the golden-spired Self-Realization Center is located- an enduring symbol of Encinitas’ positive and spiritual vibe. A great surf break, this spot is highly coveted by local surfers and is rated in the top 5 surf locations in the world. Encinitas has a flea market each weekend. Encinitas Ranch Golf Course is a championship 18 hole par 72 course with panoramic ocean views. This public facility has five tees available and can be enjoyed by golfers of all abilities. Downtown 101 is a coastal shopping district over 100 years old featuring historic architecture, quaint shops, sidewalk cafes, and restaurants framed by beautiful flower baskets. The largest single industry in the city is the growing of ornamental flowers, particularly poinsettias. San Diego Botanical Gardens is a beautiful oasis to visit with an Amazon Rainforest and the largest display of bamboo in the world.
